Easter egg huntingEver since I was small, I have loved finding things. I loved the treasure hunts at parties. I really got into digging carrots or potatoes in Grandma’s garden. I had fun helping my mom look for something she’d misplaced. And I really loved the annual Easter Egg hunt.

I can still feel that warm, early spring morning with daffodils and crocuses blooming as far as I could see. All us kids were dressed in our best Bib & Tucker as we ran from tree to porch to garden looking for those brightly colored eggs.

Some of my friends got frustrated or mad during the hunt. Not me. I loved searching and seeking and figuring out where the clever grownups might have hidden them.

And I especially loved finding those eggs, it didn’t matter to me if they were colored or filled with money or candy. I would have been happy with a plain boiled egg! To me, it was the art of the find and I was a master. I kept searching long after the other kids had stopped.

For me, it was all about finding the hidden treasure. That egg was a treasure to me, as were the carrots, the potatoes and my mom’s misplaced keys.

I know now that was born a seeker. It’s just how I’m designed. And being an adoptee allowed me to get some great practice. I became a seeker of my identity as I learn to embrace all aspects of my past—digging and searching to find who I really was.

Today, when I work with my clients, I feel like I’m on a treasure hunt. The people I work with have built up stories about who they think they need to be or who they “should” be and those stories are burying the shiny, sparkly truth inside.

Finding the “thing” that stops my clients is what I do best. My gift is identifying and helping people to clear the blocks that are in their way.

And once they’ve done that, something amazing happens. They realize they are “enough” just as they are. They don’t have to DO anything or SAY anything or PROVE anything… it is a huge a relief for them when they find that under all the stories, they are enough. When they do this, they can take a deep breath, feel peace… and get to work being really successful. That, my friend, is a brilliant place to live your life from. In fact, that is the best treasure of all.

As I was decorating for Easter this morning, I realized I have been training my whole life to do what I’m doing now. I’d love to talk with you about going on a hunt for your treasure.
