Several years ago I was in Seattle, immersed in a gorgeous retreat center for a weekend coaching intensive. The theme was all about finding your unique message.
It was my turn in the “hot seat” and I was a little nervous, not sure of what I was going to say. The facilitator was zeroing in on my lack of clarity in some areas. I had a new business and I was saying things like “I am not sure, I have to figure this out” or “I think it’s this” and then I would go down another rabbit hole of searching for the perfect answer.
Dig, dig, digging for an answer.
Then she said it…
“Stop digging and start doing”.
Oh that. Damnit.
I was embroiled in “figuring it out” instead of acting and letting it unfold. It was time to take direct, clear, consistent action daily and allow the answers to unfold, as they always do when you take brave bold steps forward into the unknown.
“Digging and not doing” allowed me to stay comfortably uncomfortable in what I felt was safety and control….digging was my escape from action.
After 6 years of coaching, I continually see clients do this same thing. It’s a personal and business growth killer.
Do you find yourself spending way too much time digging and not doing? What benefit are you getting from staying in that place?
I can help with that, let’s talk.
All the best,
